<Span style="font-size:14px;">China Drying Network News researchers from the University of Isfahan in Iran announced that they used a new method of sodium carbonate pretreatment to achieve a straw yield of 97%, and 1 kg of straw produced 175 grams of ethanol.

It is reported that straw straw is pretreated in a high-pressure reactor. The optimum pretreatment conditions are 0.5 mol of sodium carbonate, 180° C., and 120 minutes. This pretreatment increased the amount of releasable glucose from 9.5 g/l (straw untreated) to 43.5 g/l (after straw treatment) and ethanol production increased from 90.2 g/l to 351.4 g/l. This method can also significantly reduce the content of lignin and xylan, while the crystallization of cellulose also makes cellulose type I conversion type II, cellulose type II more suitable for enzymatic hydrolysis.
