Michelin donates 5 million to support the construction of special hardship students and school buildings in the quake-affected areas in Sichuan

Following Michelin’s donation of RMB 500,000 to the Sichuan Red Cross Society in May this year after the Sichuan earthquake in May this year, Michelin (China) Investment Co., Ltd. announced on November 12th that the Michelin Group donated 500,000 Euros (about 5 million RMB) to the Sichuan disaster area. Renminbi (RMB) and Michelin Chinese employees donated 400,000 RMB to determine the direction of use.

Michelin will donate 2.5 million yuan to cooperate with Chengdu Education Bureau to set up a Michelin Sichuan Scholarship to support 180 high school students who have been seriously affected by the 5.12 earthquake to successfully complete their studies and to study in the country. Acknowledging that students from higher colleges and universities offered one-time rewards.

Michelin donated another 2.5 million yuan to rebuild the school damaged by the earthquake in special education schools in Jiangyou City.

Michelin has signed cooperation memoranda with the Chengdu Education Bureau and the Jiangyou Education and Sports Bureau.

The remainder of the Michelin donation will be treated as a mobile fund depending on the above two projects.

Mr. Xia Yifu, Chairman of Michelin (China) Investment Co., Ltd., said: "As a responsible corporate citizen, Michelin China must take concrete actions to invest in the reconstruction work in the disaster-stricken areas in Sichuan. We are particularly concerned about those families whose families are seriously affected and who have lost loved ones. We hope that we will do our utmost to enable them to survive the difficulties in life, successfully complete their studies, and become useful members of society.

After the Sichuan earthquake, it was even more difficult for students with economic difficulties in the family to complete their studies: not only to overcome the immense suffering of their loved ones, but also to solve real life problems such as schooling, reading, and living expenses. Therefore, the "Michelin Sichuan Scholarship" invests more in students from post-disaster poor families from rural areas and guarantees that the recipient students do not lose opportunities for good education due to economic reasons. Michelin will select 3 to 4 of the schools damaged in the Wenchuan Earthquake in Chengdu and related district (city) counties (such as Dujiangyan, Daxie, Chongzhou, Pengzhou, etc.) to be severely affected and demonstrate a high level of education Sex High School serves as Michelin's aided school. The "Michelin Sichuan Scholarship" will focus on high school students (including seniors, seniors, and seniors), especially those who are students of rural subsistence allowances, martyrs or first-degree disabled soldiers, and students with difficult living conditions; orphans, because of this The Wenchuan Earthquake affected families with special difficulties and difficulties in maintaining their children’s normal schooling. The "Michelin Sichuan Scholarship" will sponsor every aided student's annual tuition fees, teaching materials, accommodation, and food subsidies. For college students admitted to the colleges and universities that are accredited to the university, the admission notice will be issued separately. One-time cash awards to help them complete university studies.

The special education school in Jiangyou City recruits deaf-mute students, retarded children, children with disabilities, and teenagers from Jiangyou and neighboring counties. The "5.12" earthquake caused serious damage to the school: some of the walls of the school complex and student residence building collapsed, and many beams were broken and were identified as dangerous. Michelin will donate RMB 2.5 million to establish the "Michelin Special Education School in Jiangyou City" to assist the special education school to re-plan and build a new campus.

Michelin officials also said that the "Michelin Sichuan Scholarship" and the reconstruction of Jiangyou Special Education School will be two long-term dynamic projects. In the process, Michelin will also organize company employees to travel to Sichuan on a regular basis to express sympathy to students and provide compulsory instruction so that the love of Michelin employees can be continuously transmitted to the affected areas.
