EU anti-dumping "big stick" waved to my steel fastener products

The EU Anti-Dumping Committee completely ignored the protests from Chinese exporters and decided to vote in Brussels on the 3rd. It imposed an anti-dumping import tariff of up to 87% on steel fasteners produced in China.

According to reports, out of the 27 EU member states, 14 countries support the imposition of punitive tariffs on steel fasteners produced in China, 11 against and 1 abstention. Another country wishes to consider it again.

According to an official of the European Commission, who declined to be named, the European Commission is also studying China's commitment to limit export prices. If the European Commission can accept China's commitment to limit export prices, it will cancel the decision to impose anti-dumping duties.

It is reported that the European Commission must come up with proposals before February 8, 2009 for the EU Trade Ministers Council meeting to discuss and adopt. As the EU's anti-dumping measures can only be passed with a simple majority support, people familiar with the situation believe that if China’s price-limitation commitment is rejected, the possibility of imposing anti-dumping duties on Chinese steel fasteners will be high.

In November of last year, the European Commission decided to initiate anti-dumping investigations on steel fasteners such as bolts and nuts from China. At the beginning of last month, the committee recommended to the European Council that it imposes anti-dumping duties ranging from 63% to 87% on China's steel fasteners exported to the EU within the next five years.

The permanent representative of the EU member states should have voted on this issue on November 26, but it has postponed to the 3rd of this month because of serious differences. Public opinion here believes that the proposal of the European Commission will not only affect the interests of Chinese companies and cause great dissatisfaction among Chinese companies, but will also harm the interests of European consumers.
