Behind the 2009 car recalls

Recently, Toyota’s two companies in China, FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota, announced that they had recalled parts of the Camry, Yaris, Vios and Corolla cars since August 25 due to defective parts and components, involving a total of 688,314 vehicles. This is the largest number of recalls since China began implementing the car recall system in 2004.

According to the recall report, the reason for the recall was that parts supplied by the same supplier to the two companies were defective because the driver's side of the power window main control switch control module used excessive grease during the manufacturing process, which may cause internal short circuits. , Causes the switch to generate heat, melt losses, there is a sense of stagnation during operation, the window can not normally lift, a very small part will lead to the door interior panel melting damage.

Car recalls occur frequently this year

In fact, in this year's auto market, the word recall is more familiar to consumers. From January to July this year alone, there were more than 8,000 car recalls:

In March, Mitsubishi Motors recalled some of the 08, 09 2.4L-type imported Outlander EX and 09 Lancer EX cars, totaling about 9,390 vehicles.

On April 4, FAW-Volkswagen issued a recall order nationwide to recall 17,059 new Bora cars produced from August 12, 2008 to January 6, 2009.

On the same day, GAC Toyota took the initiative to recall the Camry sedan produced between May 15, 2006 and March 3, 2008, involving a total of 259,119 vehicles.

In April, Changan Ford Mazda recalled Fox, Mondeo, Mazda 3, Mazda 2, etc., involving more than 10,000 vehicles.

In the same month, Shanghai General Motors Corporation recalled some of the Excelle vehicles that were produced from February 23, 2009 to March 17, 2009, a total of 9,037 vehicles.

On June 12, Dongfeng Motor (4.75,-0.09,-1.86%) Co., Ltd. decided to recall some of the days of production from July 1, 2004 to April 18, 2008, involving a quantity of 153,065 vehicles.

On June 20th, Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Auto (4.26, -0.03, -0.70%) Co., Ltd. decided to recall part of the Zenith and Junjie cars produced from March 29, 2007 to November 10, 2007, totaling 13,502 vehicles.

In July, Volkswagen Import Car Sales announced the recall of some imported 07~09 Touareg cars from November 25, 2006 to January 21, 2009. A total of 8680 vehicles were involved in mainland China.

According to statistics from relevant national departments, from January to July, domestic cars were recalled 26 times, involving 19 car companies and 31 vehicles, including the world-famous car companies and car brands BMW, Volkswagen, Volvo, Maserati, and Shanghai General Motors. , Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota, Changan Ford Mazda and so on. Among the recalled vehicles, 16159 were imported cars and 499813 were domestic cars.

Car recalls different results

Judging from the information released by the recalled vehicles, there are several prominent features of the recalled cars this year: Domestic cars account for the vast majority; luxury cars account for the largest proportion of the 19 car companies involved, and mini vehicles have the least Japanese cars account for the vast majority of recalled vehicles.

From a data point of view, the percentage of cars recalled this year between domestic cars and imported cars is 97:3. Of course, this ratio does not represent the ratio of domestic cars to imported cars. After all, from the relevant figures, it can be seen that from January to July this year, the sales volume of imported cars in China was about 300,000, accounting for less than 3% of domestic cars.

Compared with this figure, a more noteworthy fact is that of the 19 car companies that recalled cars this year, the luxury brands involved include Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo, which accounted for 38%, and 32% for mid-size cars. Ranked second, economy cars ranked third with 24% and mini vehicles with 5%. Of course, the recall of luxury cars is too much to say that the quality of luxury cars is poor; the small percentage of recalls for mini-vehicles does not mean that there is no problem with mini-vehicles. In fact, it is because the mini-vehicle factory is unwilling to recall it positively, and the requirement of the micro-vehicle owner for the car itself is far less harsh than that of the mid- to high-class car and the luxury car owner.

Of the cars recalled in the first half of this year, Japanese cars were relatively garish, accounting for 85%. In addition, American cars accounted for 8%, European cars accounted for 4%, and independent brands accounted for 3%.

Of course, the number of recalls also reflects the degree of sales of the product. But at the same time, people are somewhat worried. Japanese cars represented by Toyota are busy expanding the Chinese market, and they also have time to monitor and control quality.

Judging from the reasons for the recall of the car, from the reasons announced by the manufacturers, the three major reasons for the recall are the unreasonable design of the manufacturers, the unrestricted production management, and the unqualified suppliers' spare parts. Among them, 30% are recalled due to non-strict production management. The most typical ones are Subaru and New Bora. Subaru (recalling 1135 vehicles) was recalled by inverting an accelerometer equipped with a vehicle dynamics control system. The new Bora (recalling 17,059 vehicles) was recalled during the production process due to the misadjustment that caused the engine cover to open and close.

In addition, the manufacturer's design is unreasonable and the supplier's spare parts fail to occupy 35% each. A typical example of an unreasonable design recall is the improper design parameters of the barrier film in the brake vacuum booster of the Camry (recalling 259,119), which may result in reduced brake assistance and longer brake distance. In addition to the recall of suppliers' spare parts, in addition to the Toyota recall, the new Excelle, Fox, Mondeo, Mazda 2, Mazda 3, and Pentium 6 cars were all recalled due to problems with the suppliers' supply of sunroof glass. .

What needs to be explained is that more and more quality problems are exposed. It does not mean that the market products are getting worse. It is a kind of market progress that represents the greater right of consumers to the right to know.

It can be said that the increasing number of car recall incidents is mainly due to the fact that vehicle constructors are getting worse and worse and vehicle problems are getting more and more, but as the safety standards of vehicles are getting higher and higher, the company’s R&D capabilities and R&D capabilities It is also getting stronger and stronger, and consumers’ awareness of rights protection and the responsibility of manufacturers are constantly increasing. Therefore, it seems that the recall seems to be a more humane and more humane corporate culture. Clean calls are far more comfortable to listen to than consumers.

The car recall is by no means a show.
